Didn’t do much today. Had a 10:30AM voice lesson with Kaya where she led me up to my high register in this “new” voice I’m exploring that is supported very deeply in the pelvic floor. I don’t know exactly what note I eventually hit, but it was around high E, full throttle.
Then she slowly had me use this voice quality and sounded me thorough the tune of “All Through the Night” note by note, teaching me the tune. Eventually she asked me to sing the words, feeding them to me as we worked. I have never sung in that pitch range before—from high G to high E in a full, “coloratura-like” voice. Unbelievable. Those of you who know my singing voice can understand how amazing that is—I’m usually considered an alto/mezzo in range. But that’s one of the points of this voice work—that we all have all the ranges in our potential: so-called “bass, baritone, tenor, contralto, alto, soprano, coloratura” in all our voices, whether we’re male or female.
This work is very tiring; I was glad for siesta. After a lunch of soup and bread and a quick nap, I took a short hike to recycle my plastics, paper, and glass. Then I sat down to write a while.
Jay (the administrator of the Centre) gave me my schedule yesterday. I’m going to be in classes (“stages”) pretty much non-stop from February 20-April 11, which means that I need to do my traveling starting next week. I’m thinking about a first trip to Nice, Florence, Lake Majore, and Paris, coming back to Meléragues sometime in early February. A few days here, then maybe a few days in Barcelona. We’ll see. But if you don’t hear from me for a while after the 23rd, that’s why.
This afternoon Kaya is taking me to Anduze to shop. It’s the nearest town of any size and I need some things that you can’t get in LaSalle. Tonight I plan to write some more and maybe watch one of my DVD’s.
